Town of Elkin Linear Park
This project started out as a way to save and stabilize an historic street façade. With that as a goal, the Town of Elkin sought innovative ideas to capture the open space behind the façade.
ADA designed a stabilizing frame behind the granite façade, along with a structural system for a new floor at street level. This system is designed to allow the space to become a two-story building over a basement in the future.
The space now contains a large storage area at the basement level, and a linear park at street level. This level contains planters and benches, as well as canvas shades above. The rear is open for views to the Yadkin River.
This project was awarded the North Carolina Main Street “Best Endangered Properties Rescue Effort” for 2018.
